'Windermere Canoe and Kayak' organised the annual 2015 Solstice race of 10.5 miles along Windermere from Wateredge to Fell Foot. Paddlers for Life Windermere took to the water on June 13th. participating in a celebration of 20 years of breast cancer survivor dragon boat paddling.

On October 29th. 'Wear It Pink Day' race. English Lakes Hotels organised a race between local media and a Paddlers for Life team.

October 2010. More Paddlers for Life members took two days out last week to do the
power boat training.
This Level 2 training is to get some experience in the basics of power boat handling.

 

September 2010. Filming at Low Wood
Helen is one of a team of artists, engineers and health professionals who are working on a project to create a Dragon Boat simulator.
The project will use technology to allow people to try out Dragon Boat paddling.

Sunday 3rd October. Paddlers for Life Scotland SE held a ‘Dragon Boat Fun Event’ to publicise the formation of their club, at Port Edgar, South Queensferry. Three River Serpents provided boats, support and training and some Paddlers for Life, Windermere paddlers went along to give additional support.

Kendal Torchlight Paddlers for Life were brilliant, lively and glittery at the Kendal Torchlight Event on friday. Lots of hard work by many members and supporters culminated in a wonderful float featuring Artemis Diana with a colourful and enthusiastic crew.

Thursday 26th. August. Paddlers for Life entertained a group of young carers. The young people were gathering in Windermere for a well deserved two day break. Paddlers already had the two dragon boats on the water by the time our visitors arrived. After a safety brief and paddling guidance, two boats set off with approximately twenty novice paddlers.

7th. August, 2010 Paddlers for Life entered the Lake District Boat Club best dressed boat competition at Bowness.

Sunday 25th July 2010
Whilst a large contingency of Paddlers for Life members attended the launch of Paddlers for Life Scotland SW at Loch Ken, fifteen other paddlers enjoyed a 4 hour paddle and picnic on Lake Windermere during the Windermere Air Show.

June 2010 International Dragon Boat festival, Peterborough, Canada. Paddlers for Life send a strong team. Paddlers for Life for Life have had a great couple of days at the International Dragon Boat Festival races in Peterborough, Ontario and did us proud. In their first heat they came second with a time of 2 minutes 42 seconds. They also came second in their second heat with a time of 2 minutes 40 seconds.
They enjoyed a second day of races on sunday.
They thank everyone at home for the support they have had in getting them to this point.
They say we will all be with them in the boat when they race.

Solstice Paddle
Paddlers for Life had a great day for the
Solstice Paddle. Sunny conditions and a cooling following breeze allowed the paddlers to beat last year's time by 12 minutes finishing in a time of 1 hour 44 minutes.
This great success was preceded by a 'dotting of the eye' ceremony at Waterhead with a song from the paddlers and a warm and affectionate speech from Keni about Paddlers for Life.
Three River Serpents dragon boat team participated with one of our boats finishing in 1 hour 27 minutes!

17th January 2010 The trustees of Paddlers for Life were warmly welcomed by an inspired group of women in Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway. The formation and history of Paddlers for Life was discussed and the formation of another PfL group.


11th/12th December 2009 , The first
Three River Serpents of Durham visit. Everyone who took part enjoyed the experience, even though Kenni and her team did work us very hard! We would like to thank the 3 River Serpents for their time and effort that went into this very successful weekend.

6th December 2009 Members enjoyed a fulfilling Christmas lunch at Skelsmergh Community Hall, near Kendal.

Sunday 27th September 2009 - Paddlers were busy at two venues, at the Low Wood Marina, Members had the pleasure of paddling with the Kinder Children's Choir of the High Peak.
At the same time other Members of Paddlers were competing in the Annual Lytham Round Table Race, forming a composite team with NHS Lancashire - the team gained a creditable 5th place overall.

Saturday 18th July 2009 - Paddlers for Life survivors and supporters teams together with 27 other teams took part in the Dragon Boat Regatta for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

Sunday 5th April 2009 - Paddlers for Life members took to the water they were then joined later in the day by 25 'new to paddling' visitors.

Saturday 4th April 2009 - 34 members of Paddlers for Life met at the Low Wood Hotel to receive the results of the research by Dr Helen Crank of Sheffield Hallam University.

Saturday 7th March 2009. 24 members of Paddlers for Life took to the water on Saturday evening at the Kendal Leisure Center for
water safety training.

Saturday and Sunday 21/22 February 2009. We had an excellent turnout for the boat maintenance, many hands do make light work


Sunday 1st February 2009. Paddlers for Life members celebrated the Chinese New Year with a Chinese style meal at the Low Wood Hotel, followed in the afternoon by
paper Dragon Boat making
.

Sunday 8th February 2009. After a very well attended general meeting at Silverdale, members enjoyed a Jacobs Join followed by a brisk, chilly walk onto Arnside Knott.



Sunday 4th January 2009. The sun soon burnt off the mist surrounding Lake Windermere to allow everyone on our
New Year walk near Low Wood Hotel.

The 1st. Annual General Meeting of Paddlers for Life took place at the village hall Abbeystead.

Sunday 7th December 2008 It might have been a grey misty cold day at Windermere, but inside the Low Wood Hotel the atmosphere was fantastic. Forty seven members and supporters gathered for our first
Christmas lunch
and it was delicious, to think just 11 short months ago the inaugural meeting of Paddlers for Life took place in the same venue.
How far we have come? The journey has only just begun.

 

Sunday 19th October 2008 It might have been wet and wild at the Low Wood Marina but we still paddled, and thanks to a tremendous efforts by June Baker and Stacey Donnelly , Paddlers for Life received donations of over £800 following the
Lytham Dragon Boat Festival and the Great Swim respectively.

Sunday 28th September 2008 - Lytham Round Table Dragon boat Festival.

29th August 2008 The World Firefighter Games Event was held in Liverpool. the photograph below shows the only all woman team in action at Liverpool Docks, on stroke is the Chairman of Paddlers for Life Sue Cogley.

3rd August 2008 Another great day at our venue, the Low Wood Water Sports Center, as 45 paddlers took to the water to take advantage of Three River Serpents member Keni Mayes excellent tuition.

Friday 4th July 2008.
Members of the Low Wood Marina staff and Paddlers for Life received instruction from Barbara, Rob and Frank of the 4 Dragons Limited for Helm Training.

30 July 2008 Dr Helen Crank of Sheffield Hallam University has been successfully in obtaining substantial funding from NLTPCT 2008 Research Bursaries.
This great news secures the ongoing research program being carried out by Dr Crank and members of Paddlers for Life.

Saturday May 17th - Paddlers for Life were delighted to welcome two Canadian Paddlers, Jane Frost and Carol Dale, original members of Abreast In A Boat, Vancouver.

Members of the Charity met at the Low Wood Hotel, on the banks of Lake Windermere,
to put the finishing touches to the Paddlers for Life Launch Seminar to be held on the 26th of this month.

Sue and Louisa are paddling with Pool of Life, a group of breast cancer survivors linked to the Amadeus dragon boat team who paddle at Liverpool Docks.
